Anvil Press has been publishing out of Vancouver for 22 years! The press was established to print the magazine SubTerrain, but then later went on to begin publishing book catalogues. According to their website, Anvil publishes "progressive, contemporary Canadian literature with a distinctly urban sensibility."
A new issue of SubTerrain Magazine is released three times a year, full of fiction, poetry, photography, and graphic illustrations. As I said before, SubTerrain is published by Anvil Press, so if you're not quite ready to send a manuscript to the publisher, maybe start with the magazine!
Talonbooks have a great mandate on their site. They are "Canada's largest independent publisher of drama; [they] do more translations from Quebec than anyone else; and [they] publish more Native voices than any other Canadian publisher with the exception of First Nations publisher Theytus Books." A super important publisher to have in Vancouver!
PRISM International is a Vancouver-based quarterly magazine, publishing contemporary writing and translations from around the world. PRISM publishes both online and in print, and it's one of the oldest literary magazines in Western Canada!
